The exhibition, which was inaugurated on 18 November at Palazzo Piacentini in Rome, is called “L’Italia dei Brevetti: successful inventions and innovations” and organised by the Ministry of Industry and Made in Italy to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, as well as the 550th anniversary of the first Patent Statute, published by the Republic of Venice in 1474.
The ceremony was attended by Minister Adolfo Urso, Deputy Minister Valentino Valentini as well as the representatives of the companies, institutions and research centres involved in the project.
The aim of the exhibition, which is divided into seven sections based on different themes, is to relate the past and the present through the impact that more than 100 patented industrial inventions have had on Italian society and by making comparisons between different generations of inventors all over the world.
The exhibition highlights an industrial heritage, both intellectual and physical, that is of immense value for the country, made up of stories of successful inventors who have changed our way of life.
Among the solutions on display, IMA is showing an innovative patent for the forming, in continuous motion, of filter bags. This concerns, in particular, the T-800, an automatic machine for the forming, in continuous motion, of knotted double chamber filter bags with thread and tag for infusion products.
The aim of the patent is to make available an automatic machine for the production of filter bags for infusion products (tea and herbal teas) with a compact foot print, able to guarantee high productivity and flexibility, while maintaining the quality of the filter bag and particular attention to sustainability.
The world market for automatic tea packaging machines
IMA holds 70% of the world market for automatic tea packaging machines.
It operates through the IMA Tea & Herbs and IMA RI divisions, together with IMA Mai S.A.U. (Argentina), offering a complete range of solutions for the packaging of tea and herbal teas in filter bags.
IMA’s presence at the exhibition bears witness to the Group’s strong vocation for innovation, an integral part of the Company’s DNA since its foundation in 1961.
Suffice to think that the IMA Group owns more than 3,000 patents and patent applications in the world and has launched several new machine models in recent years.
The exhibition is open to the public on weekends from 23 November to March 2025 from 10 am to 7 pm at the Ministry headquarters (Palazzo Piacentini, Via Veneto 33, Rome), with last admission at 6.30 pm.
