Its superior machine operating capabilities enable producers of candy, snacks, and powders to move to a certified recyclable paper-based solution, meeting consumer demand for paper packaging.
An easy to implement paper-based flowpack
Although functional packaging papers are available, their runnability on existing flowpackers is often limited. To solve this issue, adapa has created a highly performant laminate from paper and an 8 µm BOPP layer, which significantly enhances the flowpack’s machine compatibility. It is heat-sealable and can be processed on HFFS and VFFS machines without typical efficiency killers such as ripped materials or slow speeds.
Currently, the PaperFlow(re) P-type family consists of laminates with 70, 80 or 90 g/m² paper and 8 µm BOPP. It is available with and without a barrier metallization, extending its usability to snacks, crisps, chocolate, biscuits, popsicles as well as refill packs for instant coffee. Even the thinnest variant contains 87% paper, enabling potential savings on disposal fees (EPR fees) in most EU countries.
PaperFlow(re) P-type – a highly performant paper flowpack
adapa’s new paper-based flowpack primarily aims at producers of confectionary and snacks and is an innovative alternative for all classic OPP/OPP applications. The biggest asset which distinguishes it from the majority of paper/plastic laminates on the market is its Cepi certification: it proves the recyclability of the packaging in standard paper mills. Additionally, it can be easily processed on conventional flowpack machines with no investments or retrofits for existing machinery necessary.
“The advantage over packaging papers with functional coatings lies in the better machinability, while our laminate also passes the stringent Cepi test. Meeting the demands of the future
The latest testing method from the Confederation of European Paper Industries (Cepi) confirms the recyclability of a laminate by repulping the packaging and forming paper sheets from it, which are then evaluated, also taking into account the recovered fibers and possible impurities.
This method is so trendsetting, the adapa Group is convinced this will form the baseline for the upcoming Delegated Act regarding EU-wide paper recycling. Therefore the Group is aligning its R&D processes accordingly already today: The PaperFlow(re) P-type is one of adapa’s several paper-based products that have passed the Cepi test, making adapa a complete supplier of paper-based solutions for the future confectionery, snacks and powders market.
